AUPE picketers intefering with Emergency Medical personnel

Today, the picketers moved their camp away from the tree and private property.  Instead, they camped out on the sidewalk, blocking the ramp entrance down to the townhouses.  Clearly, they have been reading this blog and are pretty sour about it.  They tried going after the member they'd given a hard time to, yesterday, over the presence of children on the picket line.  After making it clear that they were reading this blog (apparently interrupting their hunt for junk food in their van to do it) by repeating parts of it, a group of them began jeering her and her daughter.  They basically kept repeating the same phrases about not being able to bring their kids to play in the sun, and kids deserve a summer, over and over.

While they are attempting to deflect blame and avoid responsibility for their own behaviour (Abuser Tactics Bingo again), all they really did was show their own twisted, sick logic.

Speaking of sick and twisted, they also have no problems interfering with Emergency Personnel.  A member sent this in:

Around 2:15 p.m., fire truck arrived on the scene in front of the highrise. I am not sure how many fire fighters there were. As the guys were getting their gear, at least one female striker approached a fireman to ‘chat’. The fire fighters then proceeded to enter the building and security assured they were in the door and had an elevator. Some of the fire fighters headed to the unit they were dispatched for and took the elevator. The ambulance arrived within 5-7 minutes and proceeded with the available elevator.

A couple of fireman remained on the ground and were swarmed by the picketers. All but two strikers had now crossed from where they were sitting in front of the townhouses and were laughing and joking with the firemen at the highrise just outside the west meeting room doors. They were swooning. Acting like teenage girls. Giggling. Flirting.

One member who could see all the fuss going on thought it was highly inappropriate for any of them to carry on in such a situation where a member was in such a state as to maybe need to go to hospital. She called it ‘ghoulish’ for them to make light of a member in our home needing EMS services whether they were clients of SAIL or not. And for them to step forward in a mass and insert themselves into the situation was so highly inappropriate that words escape me. [...]

They were distracting the fire fighters who where here for a medical emergency. The strikers had no reason to be involved. Wow, talk about making the union look bad. Again.

Shortly after the fireman and paramedics left, a few of the strikers put on their union picketing signs and walked back and forth in front of the highrise – like real picketers! A few remained sitting across at the townhouses and their manner had changed from giggling and goofing off to quiet and all most guilty-like.

I pondered if the paramedics or fire fighters commented on their lack of identifying our site as a AUPE picket site as they just looked like a group of people sitting on their butts. I don’t know what else would motivate this highly unmotivated, lazy group of people to all of a sudden change their behaviour. Having said this, I personally do not mind if they sit their quietly and wait out their time to get their strike pay. If they have to be here, I don’t need to hear the rants to people who just want to be in their home, or on their balcony, or want to walk their pet. I would rather they find their corner and behave.

Except, of course, they're not sitting in their "corner" and behaving. They're blocking the sidewalk, blocking the entrance to the ramp, and continue to verbally abuse and harass people.

This interference with Emergency Personnel, however, is yet another low.  Not only are they okay with forcing little children to sit in the sun for hours while the adults around them act like obnoxious bullies, but they think it's okay to swarm people who are there because a member needed medical care.

They clearly don't care who they hurt, our how badly, with their behaviour.  Just when we hoped they were finally starting to behave like civilised human beings, rather than frothing, angry bullies, they turn around and show that they can sink to even lower depths of depravity.

There is only one way for them to "behave" and that is for them to stop camping out and picketing at our private homes.
